 Proteggiamo i cetacei, nuovi attrattori turistici
In Sicilia, nella contrada Pizzo Agnello di Santa Marina a Salina (isole Eolie - ME) ha sede l’associazione Delphis - Aeolian Dolphin Center, nata per studiare e salvaguardare l’ecosistema marino eoliano.
L’associazione, che dal 2006 collabora con la società di ricerca Necton ai progetti "Eolian Cetacean" sul monitoraggio dei cetacei presenti nell'arcipelago, e al "Programma Delphis" sull’interazione tra la presenza dei cetacei e le attività di pesca, si occupa anche di creare forme di turismo ecosostenibile. A cominciare dalle visite al Centro, che è fornito di una vasca tattile con organismi marini vivi, di pannelli descrittivi delle specie di mammiferi e tartarughe marine del Mediterraneo, e di una interessante mostra malacologica con conchiglie provenienti da tutto il mondo.
Con Delphis è possibile organizzare uscite in mare per l’avvistamento dei cetacei (con biologi/naturalisti a fare da guida), battute di pescaturismo diurno e notturno, ma anche piacevoli gite alla scoperta del territorio, con escursioni nei vigneti e degustazioni di prodotti tipici.
L'ingresso al Centro Visite è gratuito, ed è possibile associarsi (la tessera per un anno costa dai 2 ai 10 euro) così da avere diritto a sconti per la partecipazione alle attività escursionistiche.

Let's protect cetaceans, a new tourist attraction
 In Sicily, in the district Pizzo Agnello in Santa Marina Salina (Aeolian islands - ME) there is the seat of the association Delphis - Dolphin Aeolian Centre, created to study and preserve the Aeolian marine ecosystem. Since 2006 the association has been cooperating with the research firm NECTON at the projects "Eolian Cetacean", monitoring of cetaceans present in the archipelago, and "Program Delphis" on the interaction between the presence of cetaceans and fishing activities. It also deals with the creation of environmentally sustainable forms of tourism.
You can visit the Centre, which is provided with a touch tank with live marine organisms, panels describing the species of mammals and turtles in the Mediterranean, and an interesting malacological exhibition with shells from around the world.
Delphis arrange trips out to sea for the sighting of cetaceans (with biologists / naturalists to lead), day- and nighttime fishing trips, pleasant walks to discover the area, with excursions to the vineyards and tasting of typical products. The entrance to the Visitor Centre is free, and you can join the association (the card for a year costs between 2 and 10 euros) so as to be entitled to discounts for participation in excursion (pictures courtesy of NECTON Marine Research Society)
